The 14 Major Stars of Zi Wei Dou Shu: the Full Cast

How the cast is organized

The fourteen major stars form two families that interlock across the ring — the Zi Wei series (紫微星系, six stars) descending from the Emperor, and the Tian Fu series (天府星系, eight stars) anchored by the Treasurer. The placement algorithm positions Zi Wei first from your birth day, chains its five followers behind it, then mirrors the Tian Fu series against it. This is why certain stars can never share a cell and others always travel together.

The Zi Wei series — the executive branch

Zi Wei (紫微) — the Emperor. Dignity, standards, a need to be respected rather than merely liked. Leads naturally but needs capable ministers; an unsupported Zi Wei can feel isolated at the top.

Tian Ji (天機) — the Strategist. Fast pattern-matching, restless intelligence, the advisor archetype. Brilliant in motion, prone to overthinking at rest.

Tai Yang (太陽) — the Sun. Radiant output: gives, leads, illuminates. Its brightness depends heavily on the birth hour — a daytime Sun is seen and celebrated; a night Sun works just as hard with less recognition.

Wu Qu (武曲) — the General of Wealth. Decisive, disciplined, hands-on with money and execution. Warmth is not its native language; results are.

Tian Tong (天同) — the Child of Blessing. Ease, optimism, the gift of enjoying life. Comfort can soften ambition; its lesson is usually about follow-through.

Lian Zhen (廉貞) — the Twin-Natured. The most polarized star: principled official in one expression, rule-bending charmer in another. Context and brightness decide which face leads.

The Tian Fu series — the treasury branch

Tian Fu (天府) — the Treasurer. Stability, stewardship, quiet authority. Where Zi Wei commands, Tian Fu conserves — an excellent keeper of what exists.

Tai Yin (太陰) — the Moon. Interior depth, aesthetics, savings, care expressed quietly. Like the Sun, its strength tracks the birth hour — strongest in night charts.

Tan Lang (貪狼) — the Star of Desire. Appetite in every sense: charisma, versatility, art, indulgence. The most life-hungry star, magnetic when channeled and scattered when not.

Ju Men (巨門) — the Great Gate. The star of the mouth: speech, persuasion, teaching, argument. Builds careers on words and occasionally trips over them.

Tian Xiang (天相) — the Chancellor's Seal. Fairness, service, image, the trusted deputy. Reflects the quality of whatever it faces across the ring more than any other star.

Tian Liang (天梁) — the Elder. Protection, principle, the one others bring problems to. Ages well; its shadow is preachiness.

Qi Sha (七殺) — the Marshal. Concentrated force, decisive breaks, all-in commitment. Lives in campaigns rather than routines.

Po Jun (破軍) — the Vanguard / Destroyer. Demolition before construction: ends things so new ones can begin. Expensive in upheaval, unmatched in reinvention.

How do I read my own star?

Find your Life Palace star(s) first. Two stars together blend — a Zi Wei + Po Jun person is not "an emperor and a destroyer" but a reformer-ruler who rebuilds whatever they lead. Then check brightness (a fallen star leads with its strained expression) and the Four Transformations (a star carrying Hua Ji this year shows its shadow side more readily — see The Four Transformations).

A note on "good" and "bad" stars

Classical manuals rank stars for specific purposes (wealth, office, marriage), but no star is globally good or bad. Po Jun in the Career Palace is a gift in industries that reward reinvention and a liability in ones that reward tenure. The chart describes fit, and fit always has two sides.
